VIS Library
Our library strives to meet the needs of every student. Physically, our library has flexible indoor and outdoor spaces and is home to more than 17,000 print books in English and Lao. Our fiction collection is genrefied. This means, that similar to a bookstore, all the fantasy books are shelved together, all the mystery books are shelved together, and so on. This makes it easier for every student to find a book they will love.
Digitally, our library has over 5,000 ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines in Sora. Additionally, we have access to online databases, like Britannica School, BrainPOP, JSTOR, and EBSCO, to support students’ research in every grade. Our collection also includes smaller physical and digital collections in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, and German.
In addition to promoting free voluntary reading, the teacher-librarian partners with classroom teachers to teach information literacy, academic integrity, and digital citizenship. This collaboration is flexibly scheduled and could be for a single lesson, or it could last an entire unit of instruction. The library’s ability to provide as-needed collaboration aligns to the inquiry-based instruction and transdisciplinary nature of the International Baccalaureatte’s Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme.
Parents, guardians, and family members may visit the library anytime we are open. Families who want to come together with their student can visit before school, after school, or on Saturday mornings
