In a connected and rapidly changing world, the role of the school library in student learning is more important now than ever before. Publishing trends show us that print is not going away however the role of print is evolving and so have library spaces that host these resources. The VIS library provides a unique environment for collaborating, connecting, studying, creating, sharing and of course, reading. Currently the library hosts over 17,000 print books (approximately 35 items per student) while also providing digital access to a wide range of research databases, ebooks, audiobooks, over 7,000 newspapers and magazines from around the world and much more.

Recognizing that learners are unique, we aim to engage all learners and adapt to their individual needs.  - A VIS Learning Principle

The library resources & services enable learners from a wide range of backgrounds, interests, hopes and concerns to access a diverse range of perspectives on the world around us, to challenge them toward independent inquiry, to inspire them with a wide range of human creative expression and empower them to participate in the global community. The future of the VIS library is focused on supporting student agency in their learning by providing a responsive, flexible and differentiated experience for learners. Personalized learning is achieved by enabling learners to define their own experience & chose their own path of discovery.

The Library as a Place

During a visit to the VIS library your will find a quiet, cool, comfortable place to rest and read. You will also find a busy place to connect, collaborate and discover.

The Library as a Connector

Online or during a visit, the library is a catalyst for connection to a world of ideas. Our online resources will link you to information & inspiration no search engine can match while our books & magazines are unique, diverse and compelling. In a world of information overload, your librarian is a powerful friend to have. The library is a bridge across the IB continuum from K-12 and stimulus for interdisciplinary connections broadening the scope of learning.

The Library as a Collaborator

Library staff welcome the opportunity to collaborate with all learners as well as being a facilitator of collaborative partnerships by building connections with individuals, with the VIS community and with the world.

The Library as a Community

The physical and virtual presence of the library has a profound impact on the school community. The library is often referred to as the “lounge of the school” but is also far more broad than this. A carefully curated physical space provides a unique experience for students, staff and families that is not found in other locations in the school or community. It is within this community that connection and collaboration can flourish.
