Model United Nations (MUN) is an important part of a school's curriculum because it offers an immersive, hands-on approach to learning that goes beyond traditional classroom instruction. It provides a unique platform for students to develop a range of essential skills. 

Students in Grades 8 through 12 are eligible to participate in MUN activities. Students in Grades 6-7 can participate in our Junior MUN. They will put their critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities to the test as they take on the roles of delegates from different countries to solve real-world problems.

• Develops Critical Thinking and Research Skills: To represent their assigned country effectively, students must conduct in-depth research on complex global issues, evaluate multiple sources, and analyze different perspectives. This process sharpens their ability to think critically and solve problems.

• Enhances Public Speaking and Communication: MUN requires students to present their ideas clearly and persuasively in a formal setting. This practice helps them overcome a fear of public speaking, articulate complex thoughts, and negotiate with peers, all of which are crucial for success in academics and future careers.

• Fosters Global Awareness and Empathy: By stepping into the shoes of a delegate from another country, students gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures, political systems, and international relations. This experience promotes a sense of global awareness and encourages them to consider issues from different viewpoints.

• Builds Leadership and Teamwork: MUN is a collaborative activity where students must work with others to draft resolutions, build alliances, and reach a consensus. These tasks help them develop leadership qualities, learn to delegate, and work effectively as part of a team.

The Service & Spirit Council empowers students to be active and engaged leaders in both our school and the wider community. The group unites two key missions: building a vibrant school culture and making a tangible, positive impact outside of our campus walls.

• Encourages Student Voice and Action: The council acts as a direct link between the student body and school administration. • Cultivates Essential Life Skills: Beyond event planning, students develop crucial transferable skills like communication, organization, and problem-solving. They also build empathy and global awareness by engaging with a world that extends beyond their school campus. This group regularly works with the Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife and Hands of Hope along with other local sustainable businesses and organizations.

Members serve as the official student body representatives, working to identify and address challenges while promoting a more vibrant and inclusive environment for everyone. Through active advocacy and dedicated service, the SLC helps transform student ideas into tangible action. They are also expected to be role models, embodying the school's core values and fostering a strong sense of school spirit.

Our Student Ambassadors are the welcoming face of our school community. These student leaders are chosen to represent us to visitors, new families, and the wider community. They play a vital role in showcasing our positive school spirit and core values. Through their service, our ambassadors gain valuable experience in leadership, communication, and public speaking, all while helping others feel welcome and included.

The House System at VIS is a longstanding tradition that includes students from Early Years (EY) to Grade 12, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Each house—Gibbons, Catfish, Geckos, and Nagas—represents significant elements of Lao culture.

Gibbons symbolize the rich biodiversity of northern Laos, highlighting the importance of conservation.

Catfish, commonly found in Lao rivers, reflect the region's fishing heritage and the vital role of aquatic life in local economies.

Geckos are frequently seen in daily life, representing the diverse wildlife that thrives in Laos.

Nagas are revered in Lao mythology and culture, often depicted in traditional weaving. The naga motif symbolizes protection and strength, connecting students to Lao cultural roots.

The House System aims to promote core values such as teamwork, respect, and leadership through various collaborative activities organized by students and teachers. Each house is composed of cross-age and grade-level groups, ensuring that all students and staff are part of one of these four houses, fostering intergenerational connections and school spirit.
