Athletics Program

Carlos Sandavol
Director of Holistic Learning
In our athletics programs, students learn valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and resilience that extend far beyond the game.
A balanced mind & body
At VIS, we believe a well-rounded education is essential for students to become emotionally intelligent and interpersonally skilled individuals. To achieve this, we prioritize balance as one of our core values. We understand that academic commitments are important, but we also encourage students to pursue a balanced experience at VIS. Our activities are designed to support this goal and help students develop into well-rounded individuals.

Athletics Program
Vientiane International School offers multiple sports as part of its Athletics Program. Our teams, known as the VIS Dragons, compete locally in the Vientiane School Sports Association (VSSA) and internationally in the Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA).
The core sports at VIS include football, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. We provide opportunities for students across all grade levels: Primary teams for Grades 3 to 5, junior teams for Grades 6 to 8, and senior teams for Grades 9 to 12. Secondary school students engage in competitive sports at both local and international levels. We are dedicated to fostering teamwork, discipline, and respect among our athletes.
Vientiane School Sports Association (VSSA)
The Vientiane School Sports Association (VSSA) was brought together by a group of international schools that wanted more organized sport for their school teams. The VSSA strives to achieve educational objectives, promote integration, and offer an enjoyable sports program for all participants and spectators. Through its efforts, the VSSA aims to foster a love for sports and encourage healthy competition among students.
