The MYP and DP at VIS are the launchpads for a life of purpose. They guide our students to become knowledgeable, principled, and compassionate individuals who are empowered to lead and create change.

Why VIS?
At VIS, our secondary school is a dynamic learning environment where students are empowered to explore their passions, challenge their intellect, and discover their place in the world. We don't just focus on academic excellence; we cultivate the essential skills and character traits that prepare young adults for a future of opportunity.
Our diverse community is a place where students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate creatively, and develop a global perspective. We believe in meeting each student as an individual, celebrating their unique strengths and supporting them on their personal journey. Our dedicated educators are committed to inspiring intellectual curiosity and fostering the resilience and adaptability needed to thrive in a complex and interconnected world.
Welcome to the Secondary!
Our secondary school is where students are challenged, celebrated, and empowered to create their own path. We believe that when students have a strong sense of purpose, they're inspired to pursue their passions, develop a deeper understanding of themselves, and contribute positively to the world. By honoring the unique strengths and perspectives of each student, we support academic and personal growth through a holistic and inquiry-based approach.
Here, every day is an opportunity for students to push the boundaries of their knowledge, build strong relationships with their peers and teachers, and engage with complex global issues. We believe in fostering a collaborative community where students are active participants in their learning. We also value our families as essential partners in this journey, working together to form a strong foundation for our students' success.
At our school, learners grow into confident and compassionate leaders who are prepared to navigate an ever-changing world and become the architects of their own future.
VIS empowers students to become independent thinkers and compassionate global citizens, ready to lead and adapt in a complex world.

As an IB World School, we empower, inspire, and challenge students to pursue pathways toward individual excellence. We believe in developing the whole student, fostering their agency, resilience, and innovation.
We fulfill each learner's unique potential by providing exceptional teaching, a breadth of learning opportunities, and meaningful support to help them achieve success. Our curriculum is grounded in global standards and is built on two world-class education programs:
- The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) for Grades 6 to 10
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) for grades 11 and 12
Both programs provide a broad, balanced and globally recognized curriculum that ensures all learners have opportunities to develop interests and abilities no matter where their individual strengths may lie.
Beyond our rigorous academics, Vientiane International School offers a comprehensive and vibrant secondary experience.
Our advisory program is at the heart of our commitment to student well-being. It focuses on social-emotional learning, mental and physical health, and building essential skills for success. Students develop a strong sense of community and connection, ensuring they feel supported throughout their secondary journey.
To complement our curriculum, we offer a wide range of co-curricular activities and experiential trips. With diverse options in sports, performing and visual arts, STEM, and various clubs, our students have countless opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom. Student-athletes represent VIS in local and international leagues, and our campus is a hub of energy and activity throughout the week and on weekends.
Experiential & Community Engagement Trips
A cornerstone of our secondary curriculum, Experiential & Community Engagement trips involves all students in mandatory five-day trips to rural Lao communities. These annual trips are designed to provide authentic learning experiences that connect directly with classroom studies.
Student health and safety are our top priority, and all trips are meticulously planned. As these trips are a core part of the curriculum, they are fully covered by school tuition and incur no additional costs for families.
